In the early calendar days of the year, in NC we have a beautiful tree we call the "Tulip Tree". A Magnolia relative, this tree bursts open with sauce-sized pink blooms before turning completely green.  The sightings of this favorite of mine, amidst the backdrop of bleakness that is still winter lets me know that the plenty of spring will be soon!
